I love this thread. It's one of the few where people share anything personal to help the reader understand a little bit about the person speaking.

Like it would be helpful for me to keep in mind when I'm reading or posting back to someone elderly (Sorry if that term is offensive to anyone.) ...... I'd be extra careful to re-read and not jump to the conclusion that I can spout off whatever because people from my generation tend speak less respectfully than older generations. I tend to be more frank when I think the person is much younger. Or sometimes I tend to use different word choices if I know the person's gender.

Yeah ... I know I should watch my words regardless but I tend to misunderstand things coming from someone older and have caused undue hurt because I misunderstood and/or was not specifically aware of words that may come across as disrespectful to someone much older than myself. Know what I mean?

So ..... Charles Baker and Barbarbar: I am sorry for the times when I shot my mouth off disrespectfully because I thought you were younger and talked to you as I would someone my age or younger! Please forgive me?
WARNING: The above statements are representative of the views of this speaker. Second Hezekiah. That's where we put all the stuff that we make up.
I come to this board to feed my curiosity, I am not as yet ( although I’ve been here reading for months now ) aware why the board keeps me so intrigued returning for more and more. The OT is something I have never read until I stumbled in here - being a RC I lean upon my childhood understandings, those understandings seem a far cry from what I read here.
Re: The meaning of your internet name...

Postby water on Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:37 am

Meaning of my i-name, water:

Many really...water of life for one.

Also, once I had a vision in church regarding the Lord's voice. I could see a figure in a white robe, with a thin gold belt, like a small rope with a stone or knot at the end...He wore a crown, but it was like a thin circlet of gold...not a huge, eye catching crown...his hair was like mercury...the face was hazed out.

The figure was in front of me, about 18 feet away or so.

Have you ever seen a movie with "ghosts"? A ghost story or some other movie where they tried to depict a spirit as semi-transparent?

Well, that is how everything looked...except the Lord...he was the only solid, real thing.

Next he spoke. I could not tell what he said, that was not the reason for the vision.

But *when* he spoke, it was like every molecule in our universe lit up and vibrated...as if his voice resonated through everthing.

After the vision all I could think about was the verse that says the Lord's voice sounded like many rushing waters.

His voice was absolutely calm, pleasing to the ear, yet even in the soft spoken words he uttered, the power was absolute, as was the love. It was a gentle voice, but I can't begin to describe the power in it.

Well, yes...I can describe the power in it...it was *all* of the power...as in all powerful.

In addition to that reason for the name, ever since I was a child, before I could speak even, I remember loving to just gaze at the reflections of light that pass through water. Like the light coming out of a pool onto a wall, or even off a puddle in the street onto the side of a house. It just dances siltently, gracefully, peacefully, and in many layers.

Some people love the ocean, some love the mountains. I love any place where I can sit or lay and see the light reflected from water.

I loved physics, learning how light bends water and sends it back out in distorted patterns.

I love to paint and draw and have yet to take up my favorite aspect of creation...lol, not sure why.

Edited by: water at: 8/15/05 11:40 am

Re: The meaning of your internet name...

Postby Lazarus43 on Mon Aug 29, 2005 7:00 pm

At age 43 I was found not breathing and with no pulse, code blue. 911 was called and a prayer chain put in motion. After the prayers of many, about forty minutes of CPR and several defibrillator shocks my heart was working well enough that CPR was discontinued, but I still needed help to breathe. My medical records say I experienced "sudden cardiac death". I exhibited effects of oxygen deprivation and was on medication and in a coma for two days. There was much concern about brain damage. Prayer continued. On awakening after two days my short-term memory was very poor, but I knew who people were and could feed myself and talk and walk slowly. My ejection fraction was about a third or fourth of normal but has improved some instead of getting lower as was anticipated. I give God the glory for restoring me and providing what I needed in medical care. God uses people. Prayer changes things.

I take the medications prescibed for me and am on my second implanted cardiac defibrillator. I forget how many times I have been defibrillated.

When I first started posting on forums, I thought I might use the name Lazarus since that was what some of my Christian friends had called me. That name was not available so I thought to add my age at the time of my "Lazarus" experience. I looked up the meaning of "Lazarus" once and I think it means something like "helped by God". It's perfect for me.
Blessings,
It is my liscence plate. I wanted something that made people (unbelievers and believers) think a little as opposed to seeing a verse that they have heard so many times and not even question what it means. And a reminder to all believers (including myself) if we have really "lost this life" for "His sake and the Gospels" But I have a car that attracts alot of attention and people will come up and talk to me, and when we're done they always think my name is Mark!!...lol...But I try to glorify God with the car not myself.
My nickname that everybody calls me is Sherri. My middle name is Mae, after my grandmother. My husband had the idea of me combining them to get sherrimae.

Very interesting, Colin! I would have assumed your name was Mark. Now I'm going to be looking for messages in less obvious places.

As for Habakkuk15...........I'm not sure what has happened. I hope he is better. Last I heard he was diagnosed with cancer and needing prayer.
--------
It is my nickname (stemming from Jim Valvano- NC State), the numbers stand for my anniversary. They were supposed to be 7765, the aircraft tail number that I was a crew chief on, but my account got scrubbed and I couldn't use it after that.
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Apollo is a character on Battlestar Galactica (BSG). VP because he is a Viper (That's what they call the fighters on the show) pilot.

I see some parallels between the show (the original, 70s version, not this half hearted "reimagining") and the end days. For example, Baltar, who eventually betrays humanity, peforms wonderous miracles and promises the colonies a peace treaty with the Cylons. Sounds a bit like an Anti-Christ figure.

Postby JimmyV224 on Thu Oct 27, 2005 12:44 pm

I have heard that there are lots of parallels on that show because Lorne Greene (the star and producer?) was a devout Mormon, thus the parallelisms. Anyone else know if this is just hearsay or not?
********And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. I chose my name because I really like Dave Matthews Band's song: Christmas Song
Isaiah 40:31 - but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
