The only damage we had was in a tree at the back of our yard it lost a limb....yet the black walnut that is right behind and hanging over our kids bedroom was untouched.
The huge old tree next door....lost a huge section almost a third of its mass....it fell towards our roof....the section that our bedrooms are under.
The people who used to live there had built a full size privacy fence...which I didnt like cause it blocked our view.
But that fence....prevented the tree from falling on our house....it also saved the 2 cars next door parked under the tree.
But a car that was parked across the street....wasnt so lucky...it took the full brunt of a tree falling across it.
We had unexpected company that day....and we were all asleep when this happened....it happened so fast that I wasnt all the way awake when I went to my bedroom window to look out....but you better believe that tree staring me in the face...that wasnt there before....woke me up real fast....LOL
We got up immediately to check on the neighbors ....everyone was fine....the street was blocked from the downed trees but we were able to clear everyones driveways so they could get out if necessary.
The worst of the damage was confined to the trees on our block....one house across the street had some slight roof damage....the house on the other side of me....it had large limbs blown out of the 2 trees in the back yard....and that caused all their wiring...cable electric phone to be ripped away from their house.
To the south west of us.... 2 blocks away.....a semitruck that had been left in a parking lot....was blown across the width of the parking lot into a building that sat near the street.....to the north east of us....it hit the airport and really did alot of damage....colapsed the roof of the radisson ....blew cars all over....a couple of people were hurt.
Our house sits right in the middle of the damage on our street....but my husband spent the day helping everyone around us get their yards cleaned up....cause we only had the one limb down in the back of our yard....and we had just been discussing that it had to come out anyway cause it was rotten.
Praise the Lord....several people on this block even though unbelievers knew that the hand of God had been over them...and gave praise to Him for it. At the time...no one knew it had been classified an F1 tornado....we all just assumed it was wind or lightening. It wasnt till later yesterday evening that I heard it was classified an F1 tornado and learned of the other damage around us.
Praise the Lord....we all went to sleep that night...not knowing what was heading our way....it still hasnt really sunk in for me....we all slept right thru it....my family...my company...my grandchildren 2 doors down...at my daughters house only a section of their privacy fence was blown down... everyone on this street....had no idea till after the fact....and even immediately after....after seeing what had happened....we didnt really realize and know that we had been protected from what could have been much much worse....cause we all slept peacefully right thru it...only waking after it had passed.
This same line of storms....went on to do some real damage east of us.
