Surgery over. I will get out of the hospital today. I hear several doctors showed up for my surgery and they revived a huge chunk from my spinal chord. My leg feels lots....no.....LOTS better. :grin:

Now I will be on the mend for a while. I cannot pick up anything larger than a coffee cup for two weeks....so....time for me to catch up on good books and family friendly movies. I really love my family and friends. Many cheered me on my way yesterday. They were so kind and kept my mind busy while I waited.

Please pray for the lady who had brain surgery yesterday, just before my surgery.

I contracted MRSA while in the hospital.

Yesterday my doctor did a mini procedure to dig this awful flesh eating bacteria out of my body. It is a very aggressive bacteria as the first day I had a few black pin size spots on me, the next it was a half dime size patch that was black and the next day, it was a half dollar size. I didn't know what it was at first, but I remembered hearing about MRSA and looked at some pictures on the internet and knew to go to the Dr. right away.

If you don't know exactly what this bacteria is and what it does, please take some time to educate yourself, because I know from experience that within a matter of days, you will begin to be eaten alive by it. I understand that one out of ten who contract this bacteria will die from it. I laughingly told my family last night I'd prefer better odds, but....Im trusting the Lord for His Will, and honestly, Im ok, no matter what happens.

Please continue to pray that the Lord watch over me and that His Will be done in my life and in the lives of my family. It has been difficult on my husband and daughter, as this has been going on for months now, so I also ask that you pray for their continued patience and perseverance. Thank you for your prayers. :hugs:

I now have extreme nerve pain in my lower leg. So extreme that I want to come out of my skin. I know my leg was numb from the knee down while the nerves were trapped. it stayed numb for more than a month. When I went to the Dr's office earlier this week to get sutures removed, I saw a nurse, but not my Dr, as he is off this week. The nurse said the nerves are damaged and healing themselves, and at the time, it was bad, but not as bad as it is now. she said there is medicine for this, but I thought I wanted to tough this out. it's now to the point where if anything, like the sheets on the bed, touch it, I come unglued. We have four cats, and I am running from them! I officially am not sleeping again, as this is so painful, I can't. my back is doing great, but this new symptom has me crazy feeling. Please pray the Lord will calm these nerves in my leg down. I am going to get in touch with my doctor's office today.

Please control this new pain. Lord, calm the nerves and heal her body. I pray the crazy feeling will subside and she will get the relief she desperately needs today. Please get the right meds for her. May her family have an extra measure of patience and supportiveness today. Let them go out of their way to assist and comfort. Stop the spread of any bacteria in it's tracks Lord. I pray through all of this that she is leaning on You. Lord, there is purpose in this. Grow her faith today. Amen.

I got in touch with the Dr. and he said that because of the severity of the tear and specifically where it was located, in the main nerve distribution area, he is not surprised I am having so much pain, and such an intense pain. The damage to the nerves was extensive and will take several months to heal. In the meantime, they are giving me steroids to deal with the swelling, and several other medications (pain pills, muscle relaxants and a pill designed specifically to block nerve signals in the brain and spinal chord). They tell me that by the time I see my Dr. for a follow up visit in two weeks, I may be feeling a lot better. I sure hope so. Today is two weeks since surgery and I am a little disappointed that I don't feel any better than I do, but it appears in spite of the discomfort I am feeling, things are still going smoothly and are on the right track. I just gotta chin up. :mrgreen:

I am now to be walking 45 min a day for the next month. When I asked if I might start pt next month, I got a frown, and a "...we'll see how you area at that time". :oops:

Last night I slept through the night (with meds) for what I believe may be the first time since the injury happened. Pain usually stirred me in the morning hours, and I fully woke. I was happy not to wake in pain in the wee a.m. hours last night. On the other hand, my back and legs really hurt today, so not waking and moving those healing back muscles, which were cut during surgery, let me find out how not completely well they really are. That, and strength in the leg is very different than strength in the other leg. I didn't walk today. I ran a low fever and took it extremely easy today. My husband finally talked me into pain pills tonight, and I feel much better (the rest today also helped), but honestly....though it wouldn't have made a difference as I needed this surgery...this is a tough process.....I have to keep pacing myself. I do, and my family does....this is very gradual.

Thanks for your continued prayers!!! I am working my way back to my "normal." By the end of the day, my back and thigh usually feel like I've got a "toothache" in them, but that's not new. What is new is that I am able to stretch and bend a little more each and every day. I am back to driving my low to the ground, two seater car. My husband is rejoicing that I can get up and down into that thing again!!! (he's 6'4" ...and he had to drive it for a while!).

More and more I am sleeping through the night, also. Occasionally I wake up and need more meds, but overall....Im getting a little better, day by day.

Thank you Lord for recovery in the right measures, per your Will in my life. Thank you!!!

I need to revive my old thread. I have been having different troubles and pain since my surgery and recently sought neurologists and pain management doctors to hunt down the issues.

Regardless of human error, the time it took to get operated on, or just because of the massive injury to the spine, the end result is that I have permanent damage to two out of three types of nerves in the spine that service my legs. The sensory and motor nerves are damaged, and the spine is not healed, even to this day. I have been coping with a lot of pain, (or not coping, actually).....and have been put on different medications now to help me make it through the day every day. It's an adjustment, as I sit with all these pill bottles at my side, and as I take these things throughout the day every day.....I don't like having to reach for pills three times a day, but the alternative is even worse, and there are concerns about the present amount of swelling in the spine, so....reach for pills, I will.

I don't know what I want to ask for, because mostly what I want is the Lord's Will to be done where any and all parts of my life are concerned. Maybe strength.....strength to endure the burdens of the extensive physical pain and acceptance of the struggle that comes with my physical limitations. Dramatic or miraculous healing would be wonderful, but only if it is to and for the Glory of the Lord. Please pray that however the Lord moves in my life, it brings glory to Him.

I saw my doctor today. I have something called Cauda Equina Syndrome. I am going to see yet another type of specialist neurologist now. This time I will be traveling out of state....but don't know where to, yet......I am so grateful for the doctors who are working with me. I am beginning to feel more confident that I don't have to live like this forever. Yes, some of the damage suffered will remain with me, but some of the medications I have started are helping me through the day a little better.

burien1: There are so many I come across who are going through things. One of my best friends husbands is undergoing MS diagnosis. My other best friend's husband has so much going on with his body, and no insurance and works in a physical field....It's amazing, but I have so much peace in spite of whatever is going on with my body. I am patiently and anxiously awaiting our Lord and our perfected bodies....I cannot imagine how wonderful all of it is going to be.....Our Lord, our Savior, our King....here with us.....and us in perfected bodies with Him....

I took a deep breath tonight as I read the headlines about Israel striking Syria. We are getting closer and closer and dread and excitement come over me all at once.....I am just occupying until Christ returns.....and as shocking as my injury still is to me...the depth of change that took place that day I injured my spine.....the coming to terms with it.....there is so much more to take in.
