At least eight Syrian soldiers loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and seven deserters were killed on Thursday in a clash in the southwestern Quneitra province near the Golan Heights, a monitoring group said.
The clash took place in the village of Jebata al-Khashab, along the borders with the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel in 1967 and later annexed, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
More than 7,500 people, most of them civilians, have been killed in a Syrian crackdown on almost daily pro-democracy demonstrations in the country since mid-March, according to the United Nations.
