Prepare me to read the bible.

Prepare me to read the bible.

Postby Perry404 on Sat Sep 10, 2005 5:34 am

You know a friend told me once that you should atleast one time in your life read the bible from front to back. Normally i skip all over depending on my mood and my interests. Well i'd like to read the entire thing from cover to cover but i'd like to prepare myself first. Firstly can anyone point me to a site that can give me reference as to locations in the bible since many of them are known by different names today(Hazor, Persia, Cush, etc...)? Secondly there are often words in the bible that have common sybolic meaning such as a "horn" as a nation or the olive tree as the Nation of Israel. I'd like to find a list of these symbols and their commonly accepted meanings.
And finally i'm looking for any suggestions/tips that might help me to comprehend the book to the fullest extent that i am capable.

Hello Perry

Have you looked into the threads that are pinned at the top of this forum?

As for knowing where those places are...you are very right...getting a sense of where things take place....brings things so much more into focus.
In the maps thread....the first source someone said is SDA....but the maps are good.
The last post there I think is mine...I just found that source recently. It is very good but for some you have to have the adobe reader progam to open them...if you dont let me know and I will get you the link for the download.

You have no need that any man teach you....Jesus foretold us all things....and gave us the comforter...the Holy Spirit to bring everything He ever had to say...to our rememberance.

All is required of us is that we ask....seek...knock....in faith....believing that He will provide us the answer to our question...He will lead us in finding what we seek...and that He will open the door closed to us...if we just knock.

I have found...by using this method...that He does just as He has told us.

One thing....I have often asked questions...wanted answers...to something...of which I wouldnt get an immediate response.

I have found that....the reason I didnt get an immediate response...was due tot he fact that there was somehting else I needed to learn first ...in order that I fully understand the answer to the question I sought to begin with.

So...dont get discouraged....trust that the Lord Himself will show you the way in which you should go....it really is very awesome.

By doing it this way...my faith has grown by leaps and bounds cause I didnt let the teachings of man get in the way.
I knew...that the Lord answered me....as I had asked Him to do....and to realize that....to know that you know that you know....what the Lord has done for you.....well there is no price that can be put on it.

And....by letting the Holy Spirit do its work....our eyes are opened to those who bear witness to the truth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was mistaken...I added that source to my original post.
But abiding pointed out that you can also get maps with the Esword program....a link is also provided to it...plus that program has a thread of is own for details about it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
