WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is preparing to join an international advisory group that the U.S. has largely shunned due to fears it would adopt anti-Israeli and anti-Western stances, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

The officials told The Associated Press the administration plans to announce as early as this week that it will begin a formal relationship with the Alliance of Civilizations.

The officials said they had consulted closely with Israel on the decision to join the alliance. Israel has no plans to join, diplomats said.

Yep, to educate the western world in the values, beliefs of the eastern Islamic world in order to gain respect and understanding of their beliefs and customs and to dissolve the barriers and walls and distrust and misinformation that has spread due to terrorism. To help bridge the gap between the two cultures in a atmosphere of peace and understanding.

Despite the fact that by bringing the foreign ministers of Southeast Europe the AoC surpassed its original expectations, Sampaio is careful to set limits on the activities of the AoC. The alliance limits itself to work in four major areas: migration, youth, media and education.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration said Thursday it has decided to join the UN Alliance of Civilizations aimed at fostering greater cross-cultural understanding but shunned by the previous Bush administration.

State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters that the United States will, for the first time, attend an alliance gathering when Brazil hosts the next forum in Rio de Janeiro on May 28-29.

"The United States has decided to join the Alliance of Civilizations," Crowley said.

"We recognize the value of the Alliance of Civilizations as an important initiative seeking to improve understanding between cultures and peoples," Crowley said.

The United States is the 119th country or international organization to join the group, he said.

The Alliance is a 2005 initiative by former UN chief Kofi Annan and the prime ministers of Spain and Turkey aimed at bringing together institutions and civil society to bridge prejudices and misunderstandings between peoples of different cultures and religions.

Regardless of any suspicions about Glen Beck, he is 'watching' and reporting the truth of whats happening with our governent. I pray for his safety. I`m surprised an accident hasn`t already happened to him.

I watched that last night, I was waiting for him to mention the US joining the AoC.

Now that we have joined the AoC the government has the instrument to interface the so called "churches" with the UN-AoC. This pairing will work for the higher purpose according to the goals of the administration and the UN-AoC. It's starting to smell like there is a beast in the room.
