Am I still saved?

Am I still saved?

Postby kgroh05 on Sun Jan 18, 2004 2:54 pm

I am scared that I may not actually be saved.... I pray everyday and read the bible everyday. I believe in God and that Jesus is my messiah and savior.... When my friends say they don't know if there is a God I try to explain things that there is a God. And try to show them fulfilled prophecies like Israel-1948. When I am talking about God to my friends I never think for once that there might not be a God. Yet when I am alone and start reading stuff about God and Jesus on the internet like this site I start to think what if there isnt' a God? What if there is no Heaven, no afterlife? And then I say to myself... I cannot think that. Because that is wrong and that there is a God. I am scared that I may not really be saved because of those thoughts. I have been having those thoughts almost everyday for a few years. Yet try to do God's work by spreading Christianity. I have basically come back to God full-time in the past 4 months as I always believed in him just never read the bible nor prayed that much. I am scared that I may fall away or am not actually saved. Please answer my question to whether I am actually saved or not... I am extremely afraid of Hell and want to be with God and Jesus forever in Heaven. Am I actually saved despite those horrible thoughts? Also please pray for me that I may not fall away as I am young at 16 years old and am surrounded by godless people everyday in school.

I can't answer your question about whether you are saved or not but if not you are on the right track. Prayer.

I do know that in order to be "saved" first and foremost you MUST accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. You see the word "accept", it means to take something that is offered ie a gift. How fitting. By accepting it will relieve you of your worries and allow you to concentrate on what is more important and that is developing a relationship with God. Knowing God and doing His will in your life.

By developing that relationship you will begin to open doors that you didn't even know existed like growing in your faith; praying and seeing the Lords answers to your prayers. You will see life through different lenses. Your entire life will be shaped around your faith. You will do the things that you do because you love the Lord and want to please Him and Worship Him because He is so good.

You will begin to understand what it means by grace and mercy which will bring tears to your eyes. You will see God's beauty throughout the earth. You will understand why you are nothing without Him; condemn without His grace, and forgiving because of His mercy.

I use to read and pray because I felt as if I was suppose to and that it would buy me a place in one of the rooms in His mansion. Now I read because I love to read and learn about the God who loves me so very much that He sent His only Son to die for my sins. Even my sins. I am just a southern lady who is a nobody to this world but a Child to Him who loves me. I know the King and the King knows me. He knows me so very well that he allows the Holy Spirit to reside with me as I try to live my life as He would want me to.

Do not ever feel that being a Christian means you are exempt from temptation and sinning. I say Christians experience temptation beyond belief because Satan wants your soul. Satan doesn't have to worry about the lost. He has to worry about the "found". He knows he has but a short time on this earth to seek and destroy "your" relationship with the Holy One.

Doubting is natural. It makes you seek for answers. Answers come from the Bible. Seek not the answers from man but from God. You do this and I promise you, your life will be filled with the Spirit and you will never doubt if you have been bought.
If ever you doubt your salvation or think you can lose it. These verses are proof and comfort that you cannot lose it.
John 10:27-29 - " My sheep hear My voice ,and I know them, and they follow Me. "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. " My Father , who has given them to Me , is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of my My Father's hand."
Also:
Ephesians 1:13-14 - "In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession to the praise of His glory."

It is normal to doubt at times. Satan likes to throw that thought into us believers as much as possible. The answer is to keep in fellowship with the Lord through prayer and reading His word. Fact is, once you ask Jesus into your heart He is there to stay. Think of it this way, if you could lose your salvation it would make what Jesus did on the cross for us sinners useless, and we know that's not true. You see no one is without sin. The only one to walk this earth that was holy is Jesus Christ. I was told by a pastor that a good indication that you are saved is if you feel convicted or guilty when you sin. That is the Holy Spirit that is your loving conscience.

I hope I was of some sort of help to you.

I commend you on your honesty.

Our minds can do that to us. Sometimes it's like there are two people inside us. That's why reading our Bible is so important. It puts the right thoughts in our head -- God's thoughts. We need to read our Bibles as much as we can. And if we do that -- especially the Psalm, it won't be long until doubts will go away.

I use to doubt my salvation too. Then one day it came to me, salvation isn't my job, it's Jesus' job. And after I understood that, it took the burden off me and put it on Jesus.

One more thing, the very fact, that you are so worried about this indicates to me that you are saved.

Don't let those doubts get you down. We've all been there.
Thanks guys for the input and support. For the first time in years i have gone two days without doubts. I have felt even closer to God these past two days. Everytime I watch the preview for "The Passion of the Christ" it brings tears to my eyes. Funny thing is that I've never questioned if there is a Hell or the Devil. Just more proof that Satan is trying to take me. God keep your armor around me.

I pray that God puts his full armor around you each and every day so Satan's lies do not bring you down. I agree with Herb, you are saved. For you to doubt your salvation, it sounds to me like Satan is making you question yourself. If you ever feel yourself doubting your salvation again, pray in Jesus's name for Satan to flee you, and he will!

With the Holy Spirit living inside of you, you can be very powerful against Satan and his demons. Keep praying and studying the word!

Re: Am I still saved?

Postby letsgo45 on Fri Mar 19, 2004 10:26 am

From my post in "The Great Apostasy" board...

On this board, I have seen the statement that the person doesn't believe in "once saved always saved". I cannot imagine living with the belief that I could lose my salvation by not doing everything right. Jesus died for all of our sins, past, present and future. You did nothing to earn it, and you can do nothing to lose it.

The Bible does speak of persevering and being faithful so we don't lose our reward. We need to persevere for heavenly rewards, not salvation. Also, if we don't persevere, we will ruin our witness and all of the hard work we have accomplished up to this point. I believe that a true Christian bears fruit and perseveres because of who he is in Christ, and because God's spirit is at work in his life. If there is no fruit and perseverance, it is likely that the profession of faith was never genuine to begin with, not that the person had his salvation and then lost it. This is no subtle difference.

We forgive our children. We don't disown them just because we aren't happy about their actions. How much more will a loving, holy God NEVER let go of His adopted children.

Don't drive yourself crazy! Do you really think that God is so fickle as to love you enough to die for you, call you His child, tell you "He who has the Son has life", and tell you "no one can snatch them(His children) from my hand" one day, and then the next day say "nevermind, I had no idea you are going to do THAT! Deal's off...its hell for you." That uncertainty sounds more like Islam and Allah than our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I think that salvation hinges in many ways on defining one word...believe. 1 John 5:13(Amplified) says, "I write this to you who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) the Son of God..., so that you may know(with settled and absolute knowledge) that you (already) have life, yes, eternal life".

Belief is not merely intellectual assent to an idea. Consider James 2:19 "You believe that God is one; you do well. So do the demons believe and shudder." Belief and action go hand in hand. If I said, "I believe there is a suitcase in my back yard with $1 million in it", but did not go and pick it up, you would have to reasonably conclude that I did not believe what I just said I believed.

In the same way, if we say that we believe in Christ, but do no endeavor to change our lives and try to be obedient to Him, we are fooling ourselves if we think that we truly believe in Him. The life of a true Christian will be marked by progress over time towards Christlikeness. Granted, this progress will be imperfect, and will sometimes be "two steps forward, one step back." But it will be progress nonetheless.

So do as 2 Cor. 13:5 says and test yourself to be sure that you are in the faith. Once you are sure that you believe, rest on the promise stated above in James and "know(with settled and absolute knowledge) that you (already) have life, yes, eternal life".

Yes you are saved. Some say do not question the Lord but with out questioning theres no answer. Having doubt only allows God to reveal to you, so you can have a testimony. Only the devil will alter your belief, but there is a God. If there is anything that alters your decision cut it lose. Reading the bible and spending time with god will allow you to no longer doubt. Some people say you don't have to go to church to be saved but the Lord says praise him in private and in public, it allows him to know you are faithful. So stay faithful.

I used to have the same question kgroh05. Satan wants you to doubt. He thrives on that. Just remember that we serve a loving master, Jesus, who really and truly wants us to come to him and be saved. He takes no pleasure in people not being saved, so it wouldn't make sense if we could "lose" our salvation. Hope that makes sense.

By the way John 32, thanks for looking up those verses. I feel that much better after reading those.

two simple questions i want you to consider.

1) are you willing to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord?
2) Do you believe in your the God raised him from the dead?
Kgr, in my humble opinion you're being tried by Satan and he wants you bad. Don't let him cloud your mind. It is very normal to question everything, and I do mean everything, even God and his existence. He gave us good brains and we are onlyhhuman. It's fine to think with your head...yet still have faith with your heart.

I, too, am surrounded by non-believers, including my husband. I write science-fiction, and at the last critique group I sat across the table from a High Priest of Set, as he calls himself. He is a big high-up with the Satanists. Apparently this Set predated Satan in literature of some sort. It really shook me to find that out about him, since I have employed him to do writing for me in the past.

I was the only Christian in the critique group of pro SF writers, and I felt looked down on and like they were intellectually sneering at me. It hurt. And it hurt that they won't listen to the truth and that they are not saved. I'd like them to be.

I hear you, sister. Stay strong in Christ. It is very hard sometimes, but hang tough.

IT IS OK TO HAVE DOUBT. JUST SO LONG AS YOU CONTINUE TO SEEK THE TRUTH.

You need some apologetics. A category of works that teach and help new believers.

I highly recommend "A Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. Another work by a long-time atheist. Many of my favorite books are written by former atheists. But that's just me.
Lee goes over areas in which people may have doubts about Jesus Christ, the reliability of the Bible, the Resurrection, etc.

I was saved, but was still referring to this, just to squash the last remnants of doubt I had.

God Bless you,

Steve

Once Jesus has come into your heart, your Gods child. We may end up coming to his throne, caked in mud. But, remember, you're not the mud.

Not the mud.

16...wow, wish I was where you are at 16!!!

I like what Herb said. Read the bible. Even if you're just tumbing though. At least God's word is ringing in your ears.

"salvation is Jesus' job". He brings us there and then protects us...because He is madly in love with us.

Please look at this: Mat. 4

1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."
4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'[a]"

5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'[b]"

7Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'[c]"

The first two temptations of Jesus by satan. Notice that the devil calls into question Jesus' status as God's son. Also notice that Jesus answers the temptations by saying "It is written".

How can you answer evil questions without the knowledge of the word?

My two cents.

:a3:  Just A Child: What you have shared is very true & strengthening to anyone who would be needing confidence in their salvation. A lot of good advice has been given; especially really getting into the Word of God.

Just remember KGROH05:

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

When we eat the book, the Word of God becomes apart of us, is hidden in our hearts that we sin not against God, as Psalms says. We begin to walk with Jesus because we will know him; he is the WORD.
PROCLAIMING THE TRUTH (see profile) John 17:17 Sanctify (set apart) them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
