It's simple to do.
2 Timothy 2:24a..And the servant of the Lord must not strive ...
The meaning is, that the servant of Christ should be a man of peace. He should not indulge in the feelings which commonly give rise to contention, and which commonly characterize it. He should not struggle for mere victory, even when endeavoring to maintain truth; but should do this, in all cases, with a kind spirit, and a mild temper; with entire candor; with nothing designed to provoke and irritate an adversary; and so that, whatever may be the result of the discussion, "the bond of peace" may, if possible, be preserved.

I was wondering if it was only my impression, or fact, that the earthquakes seem to be getting larger in average intensity. So, I went to the ANSS Earthquake Catalog and searched for all earthquakes > 4.0 since 01Jun2006.

I then parsed that information, calculating the number of earthquakes per day and their average intensity.

Here is the result:

Image.

Looks like things started changing in July. If we're in the 70th week, I would expect this trend change to intensify. If we're not, I would expect it to return to normal sometime in the near future. I'll have to do this again in a month, or so.

Maybe, I should do this for the opposite case, too. ie, the number of quakes < 4.0. Perhaps, they are increasing in number. Hmm, back to the drawing board.

Do any of you mothers draw any similarities between this and childbirth? ie, the number of "events" drops, but the magnitude increases? I've seen all four of my children born, and it seems to me that this does not fit with childbirth. What I saw was that labor increased in both frequency and magnitude. Correct?

I had to restrict this to > 4.0 if I went back to June 2006 due to the huge number of results. I'll do it again using ALL earthquake data, but restrict it to the last six months or so. Perhaps, that will be a manageable number of events.

I noticed that major-big spike back in mid-November. It was a couple of weeks after that the sun for some reason put out something like 1,000 times it's normal electromagnetic energy emission. This was the same time that the U.S. basically said that Israel was on her own.

Wow, a 7.7 mag earthquake just hit coastal Peru. Anyone else have the feeling that something is coming? It just seems like all of this is happening at an increasing rate. Maybe it's the fact that news travels fast now, but I think God is trying to tell us something....

In my experience (I have four too), yes, they actually can decrease in frequency but increase in intensity. With three of mine, this happened to me about 4 hours in right after my water broke when the contractions really started to do some work. Then later, more toward the end they would increase in magnitude again, as well as frequency, as you described. That chart you posted is eerily like the strip of the contractions that the nurses watch, IMO.

Quote: "That chart you posted is eerily like the strip of the contractions that the nurses watch, IMO".

I was thinking the same thing as I was looking at that graph!

Just checked, and there have been more major earthquakes , in addition to Peru, yesterday and today in Japan, the Solomon Islands and Alaska (and the islands off the Alaska coast).

If you look at the world today;

Large area's throughout the world with wildfires and extreme drought.
Extreme flooding in many countries.
1 hurricane and 3 tropical storms.
Hundreds of earthquakes with as many as 7 over 5.0.
Volcano's erupting (4 at the highest alert level).

God is certainly getting my attention!!

In regards to the trend line plotting earthquake frequencies

Postby Perseverance on Wed Aug 29, 2007 5:54 pm

I noticed the frequeny actually dropping below averaged towards then end of the chart. For earthquakes that is actually a precursor to larger tremors. If pressure isn't released frequently it will continue to build until release in a much more explosive result. That chart is a little concerning. Praise God for his perfect protection of our eternal souls.

Google earth has an earthquakes alert. It refreshes itself every five minutes, so if an earthquake happens two minutes ago, you will get the quickest report.

Just download google earth. It's pretty cool.

6.6 quake, aftershocks jolt Taiwan

Postby denise on Fri Sep 07, 2007 8:29 am

http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_new ... ?id=121421

BREAKING NEWS

6.6 quake, aftershocks jolt Taiwan

Taipei (dpa) - Three earthquakes measuring 6.6, 5.7 and 3.9 on the Richter scale respectively rocked Taiwan early Friday, causing small damages but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

The first quake, measuring 6.6, struck at 1:51 am Friday (1751 GMT Thursday) with its epicentre 74.6 kilometres from Ilan on Taiwan's northeastern coast and 27 kilometres under the sea, the Seismological Observation Centre said.

It was followed four minutes later by an 5.7-magnitude aftershock, in the same region.

At 3:32 am (1932 GMT Thursday), a tremor measuring 3.9 jolted Taitung in southeast Taiwan.

The quakes were felt all over the island, causing bottles and cups to tumble off shelves and window frames to rattle. Many residents living in high rises in Taipei ran onto the street, fearing their buildings might collapse.

In Ilan, an arch of the Buddhist Lu Yuan Temple tumbled to the ground, but no one was injured, according to TV reports.

The quakes triggered rockfalls along the Suao-Hualien Highway on Taiwan's mountainous east coast.

In Panchiao, a satellite city of Taipei, bricks broke lose from a building and smashed several parked cars, but no one was injured.

Lu Pei-ling, deputy director of the Seismological Observation Centre, said there was no cause for panic, stressing that the quakes were the normal release of seismic energy.

"The 5.7 quake was the aftershock of the 6.6 quake. So after the 6.6 quake, there shouldn't be any bigger quake," she said.

Taiwan lies on the circum-Pacific seismic belt, where 68 per cent of the world's quakes occur. Most of the earthquakes which hit Taiwan occur off the east coast because of friction between the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Plate, but generally cause little or no damage.

Taiwan can experience more than 200 quakes each year, with several of them measuring 6 or even higher on the Richter scale.

But on September 21, 1999, a quake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale hit central Taiwan, killing 2,400 people and leaving some 10,000 others injured.
Standfast therefore in the Liberty which Christ has made you free

An 8.1 just hit near Sumatra again (thinking about the great tsunami of Dec '04). Of course a 9.0 is 8 times stronger than an 8.1.
