Rick Warren

Holly, I ask this question because I've seen many seemingly valid points made about false or incorrect doctrine in his ministry, but I've read the first seven chapters of his book "Purpose Driven Life" and although it felt a little weak, like baby formula, I didn't see anything that would lead me to call it apostate.

I've seen other concerns from people about the Purpose Driven Church, which seems more disturbing, but I've not personally read the book.

Some clarity concerning this man, his teachings, his stance, and any apostasy he may be a part of would be extremely helpful.

Hi Brandon,

I also have read The Purpose Driven Life and didn't see anything that would amount to apostasy. Apostasy is a defection from the Christian faith. Rick Warren's theology, from what I've seen, is orthodox. He affirms the core Christians doctrines of the Trinity, deity of Christ, gospel, etc.

I don't believe the concerns some Christians have with Warren's teachings amount to apostasy. This word is thrown around too quickly today. That's not to say, one way or the other, about the truth of all his teachings or his emphases. I haven't studied his teachings enough to comment on much of them. I do know that I disagree strongly with the statement he makes in The Purpose Driven Life that we should not be focused on end-times prophecy. I've also disagreed with some other things he's said and done.

But his teachings, that I've seen, are within the boundaries of orthodox Christianity.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you need any clarification.
