Well, things may be escalating in Syria.

Israel is being blamed for shooting down a Russian military transport aircraft during an attack in the last few hours. Russian and Syrian sources are trying to say it was shot down by IDF F-16's while cruise missiles were also attacking Syria from a French warship.

Wow. This type of thing was bound to happen with military from several different countries all fighting in one small country.

I pray that the Lord will defend Israel. If not for their sake, then for the sake of his people and His name.

Israel may have been defeated in times past, but now is different. Now the whole world is watching and Christians everywhere praying for them.
Matthew 1:22
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophets

It appears it was a Russian electronic surveillance aircraft, which would have likely been airborne for the purpose of watching military activity in the area.

The US is saying Syrian defenses accidentally shot it down.

Tomorrow evening the day of Atonement begins, Yom Kippur. It would seem likely that God would time events with feast days He set up to remind Israel to return to her God.

Russia is admitting that Syrian anti-aircraft defenses is what shot down their aircraft, but they are blaming it on Israel. Russia is also stating that Israel only gave them notice of about a minute before the attack and that IDF F-16's used the Russian aircraft to fool Syrian air defenses.

I'm not sure I'm buying this, as Israel would have zero reason to do such a thing towards Russian aircraft unless they became hostile towards IDF aircraft. An electronic surveillance aircraft would not be hostile unless Israel was being aggressive at trying to keep Russia from watching what they were doing.

Apparently Russia will be increasing their fighter presence in Syria and there's also this, which is just a rumor so take it with a grain of salt. That would be a huge provocation by Russia.

Russia is now advancing fighter aircraft and cargo planes through Iran and on to Syria. President Putin did say that he would likely send more fighters and resources in response of yesterday's hostilities to protect Russian interests in the region.

My worry is if Putin has decided to be more aggressive at using their assets to confront Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets and/or deploying the S-400 around Damascus instead of just around Russia's military bases in Syria.

Russia has announced NOTAM and navigational warnings in the Mediterranean sea and Lebanon & Syrian coasts starting today and lasting through September 26 for live fire exercises.

The big deal about this is Russia apparently not allowing any aircraft into Syrian or Lebanese airspace from the direction of the Mediterranean sea at altitudes of less than 19,000 feet, effectively creating a type of "no fly zone" on Israel as many of the IDF's airstrikes have originated from the coast of Lebanon and then proceeding into Syria. Russia currently has ships in the eastern Mediterranean equipped with the S-300 missile system which would likely target any Israeli or NATO aircraft/cruise missiles if they attempt to ignore this "no fly zone". The other problem is it forces any potential Israeli airstrikes to launch above 19,000 feet which will leave aircraft vulnerable to Syria's S-200 missile system.

This could end up being a big escalation and a very likely response to the Israeli airstrikes that resulted in the Russian aircraft being shot down. Previous NOTAM/navigational warning issued by Russia for exercises have come weeks in advance.
