The Vatican Wants to Lay its Hands on Jerusalem

This is a loaded article. Here are snips, but if you have time read the entire piece.

“Peace negotiations in the Middle East must tackle the issue of the status of the holy sites of Jerusalem”, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, head of the Vatican’s Council for Interreligious Dialogue, declared several days ago in Rome.

“There will not be peace if the question of the holy sites is not adequately resolved”, Tauran said. “The part of Jerusalem within the walls – with the holy sites of the three religions – is humanity’s heritage. The sacred and unique character of the area must be safeguarded and it can only be done with a special, internationally-guaranteed statute”.

In September, Patriarch of Jerusalem Twal was at the White House for a meeting with the American administration as well as to support the PA statehood bid at the UN. Twal repeated Benedict XVI’s speech of May 13, 2009 in the Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem, one of the most political speeches ever pronounced by Ratzinger during his pontificate. It was given in front of the most eloquent symbol of the conflict: the security wall between Israel and the PA areas.

On that day the Pope spoke specifically of an “independent Palestinian state”.

The Vatican wants Israel relinquishing sovereignty at the Western Wall and the Temple Mount. The Holy See uses the expression “Holy Basin”, which refers to the area of the Temple Mount, the Mount of Olives, Mount Zion and a variety of Christian holy sites which the administration of former U.S. President Bill Clinton began reccomending be administered under a “special regime”.

The Obama plan also calls for resolving the two thorniest issues in the conflict by sharing Jerusalem and settling Arab refugees in Arab countries or a future Palestinian state, but not in Israel. According to Obama, the Old City of Jerusalem would be designated an “international zone”.

The Vatican has been negotiating the city of Jerusalem since early 1992. It had hoped for their agenda to be complete by 2000. The link provides a timeline for their negotiations through 2002.

April 15, 1992, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, one of the highest ranking diplomats at The Vatican, visits Israel for the first time but only meets with Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek.

June 1992
The story of The Catholic Church's attempt to abscond with the Old City of Jerusalem from the Jews begins in July 1992. According to the information on the Foreign Ministry website, literally from the moment the n ew Ra bin-led Labor government took over from Yitzhak Shamir's defeated Likud party, secret talks with the Vatican and the State of Israel began. What precipitated these secret talks? Who arranged these talks, and why? Why were they kept secret from the Israeli public? What was the end result of these agreements? Where do they stand today? The entire subject of Israel's bi-lateral relations with the Vatican is intentionally kept locked away in secrecy. It is no wonder that nobody in Israel knows much about "Israel-Vatican relations" as it is never, ever reported on in the Israeli press.

I was watching a show recently on the History Channel, NatGeo, or one of those types of channels; it was about the Vatican and the Pope's influence (control maybe) over billions. The program had a political twist about how world leaders recognize his clout on the world stage. It was pretty interesting.

IMO, if anyone missed the presentation by Gary Kah, linked in the above thread, it would be well worth the hour it takes to listen to. After listening, I would say, if you know who Gary Kah is, then you can skip up to about 10 minutes, as the first 10 minutes is intro blah, blah, blah.

From 10 minutes on, its riveting, and it's chock full of stuff on the pope.

After posting this, I have now listened again to the presentation. The things on the Pope start at around 45 minutes, with a good place to begin being actually around 30 minutes to get the lead up. From 45 minutes on, it moves really fast. I still recommend listening from about 10 minutes on, to see other players and other things being formed....it really "gives teeth" to everything 40 minutes and beyond. (background information, if you will).

Pope's Butler arrested for leaks?

VATICAN CITY (AP) — An already sordid scandal over leaked Vatican documents took a Hollywood-like turn Saturday with confirmation that the pope's own butler had been arrested after documents he had no business having were found in his Vatican City apartment.
