On the stand to reason site, there is a column titled "God doesn't give autographs".

In the first paragraph, there is a mention of 5000+ copies, written in Greek, of things the actual apostles penned.

I am very curious about this and hope you can shed some light on these items. What are they? Are they simply early copies of gospels? Or are they something else?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, the 5,366-plus documents are early Greek copies of the original New Testament writings.

On a side note: This huge number of early copies explains how — even though we don't have the original New Testament manuscripts — we can be so sure the writings we have today match the originals. We can look through the thousands of manuscripts and spot the ones that contain "typos."

Hope this helps!
