How does one use the bold/italic/underline tools?

Postby WilliamL on Thu Jun 26, 2014 2:07 pm

How does one use the bold/italic/underline tools? When I try to use them, I (and others, I've noticed) just get
testing ??

always leave a space after them and your next word
You did the "testing" right, but did not put a space after .

Hit the italics button and then post in between them.

Same with the bold and the quote.

When you hit the button, your cursor should land in the middle of the two codes indicating it's ready for whatever you want to put there.

Give it a try.

Or . . . type what you want, then highlight the part you want to format, then click the format button.

If you want to see how others have formatted a post, you can quote their post, and it will show the format codes.

Mercy, I don't know but what I'm more confused than ever.
So I'll print all this stuff out and go over it, like I usually do, till I get it.

Thanks for all the help, and I expect others are also appreciative.
Blessings of peace, William

Testing

There is a test text with every format tool used around it... So you can see how it's done... Just quote this message and you will see how it is formatted in the editor screen.

Below is an alpha numerical list with alpha uppercase.

Uh, so I followed Abiding's prescription:

"Hit the italics button and then post in between them. Same with the bold and the quote.
When you hit the button, your cursor should land in the middle of the two codes indicating it's ready for whatever you want to put there."

--and I ended up with code, not bold and italic, being posted.

Then I followed mark's prescription:
"If you want to see how others have formatted a post, you can quote their post, and it will show the format codes."

Sure does, but the quotes come through as code, not as formatted in the original posts.

Code: Select all
testing the code option

William, if I hit the code button, this is how it would look.

May I ask what program/browser you are using to access the internet?

Also, if you try one or two options here in this thread, we may be able to see what's happening.

I just thought of another possible solution. It could be you do not have the BBC code option chosen in your User Control Panel at the top of the board.

Each member has a User Control Panel where "Board Preferences" is listed. There are 3 tabs under Board Preferences:

1) Edit Global Settings
2) Edit Posting Defaults (this is the one where BBC option should be checked as "yes"
3) Edit Display Options

That may sound confusing, but it's very simple once you find the User Control Panel at the top of the board. The feature just gives members some choices as to how they see the board.

And the winner is Abiding! A true teacher of the Word, and words.

Many thanks, and God bless you. William

William, you can also see your post before submitting by clicking the 'Preview' button at the bottom of the ''post a reply' page. Gives you a chance to see and correct mistakes in your post.

 Way to go Abiding, again !

God Bless You

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.
