The cause of Noah's flood

Postby Jericho on Tue Aug 07, 2018 10:00 pm

I've been reading a theory about a possible cause for Noah's flood that has been around for awhile now, but is new to me. It contends that the planet Mars may have once had a very different orbit than it does now. A more elliptical orbit similar to Halley's Comet, but didn't go out as far out as Halley's Comet does. Once or twice every century it would come ominously close to Earth and wreak havoc. Something then happened in recent history that changed the orbit of Mars to what it is now.

Some of this conclusion comes from ancient writings themselves. The ancients had a certain fear and reverence for Mars. Mars is named after the Roman god of war. The word "martial" is derived from Mars, as in martial arts. There are repeated traditions of cosmic upheavals in virtually every culture, just as there are repeated flood traditions in every culture. For instance:

-In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the world's oldest story, it speaks of Noah's flood and specifically says Mars (called Enlil by the Sumerians) was the cause of the flood. "(But) Enlil (Mars) shall not come near to the offering, Because without reflection he brought in the deluge and consigned my people to destruction! As soon as Enlil arrived and saw the ship, Enlil was wroth..."

-Ginzberg's Legends of the Jews is a Talmudic Commentary which states, "The flood was produced by a union of the male waters, which are above the firmament, and the female waters issuing from the earth. The upper waters rushed through the space left when God removed two stars out of the constellation Pleiades... There were other changes among the celestial spheres during the year of the flood..."

-Hesiod (750BC-650BC) wrote about the two steeds of Ares (Ares was what the Greek's called Mars), pulling the chariot of Ares across the cosmos. Mars has two small moons, Deimos and Phobos, that were not discovered until 1877, after telescopes were invented. So how did Hesiod know that Mars had two moons, unless he saw them?

-The ancient Romans venerated the planets, and above all Mars. They have two days set aside for their Mars adoration, Tubilustrium, a day of trouble, turmoil and tumult (March 20-21), and Armilustrium, a day of alarm (October 24). These dates correlate respectively with the Hebrew Passover, and the day of the onset of Noah's flood.

-The Chinese call Mars "the fire star".

These are but a few examples.

One contention from secularists is that there would not be enough moisture in the atmosphere to produce a global flood, and that is correct. But the rain was only one factor. The bible states it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, but the waters continued to increase for 150 days (Gen 7:24). Meaning the water continued to rise even after it had stopped raining. When the Bible speaks of the "fountains of the deep", it refers to the great oceans and seas which cover 72% of the Earth's surface. There is more than 200,000,000 cubic miles of water in the ocean, enough to cover the surface of the Earth. The cause of this tidal upheaval and the global flood were two astronomical bodies, Earth and Mars, interacting with one another. When Mars and Earth approached each other, their gravity would attract each other, while their magnetic fields, to a lesser extend, also interacted. The result would be much tidal upheaval within our oceans, much like our moon effects our tides, but to a greater degree. It would not only affect the tides of our ocean, but the tides of lava (fluid magma) from within the Earth's thin crust, causing the crust to convulse and bulge. The pressure from the ocean water above, and the lava from below on the earth resulted in the mountain ranges we see today. In fact, marine fossils have been found at nearly every altitude, including the Swiss Alps.

So what changed Mars orbit? According to Bode's law, there was one vacant orbit, between Mars and Jupiter. Where there should be a planet between Mars and Jupiter, there is now a very large asteroid belt https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Inne ... tem-en.png. Evidence suggest these asteroids are the remnants of a former planet. This event happened fairly recently, a couple thousand years ago. When this unnamed planet came close to Mars, Mars gravity would have torn it apart into fragments before the planet actually collided with Mars. If you look at Mars it is divided into two hemispheres. One hemisphere is serene, with relativity few craters, the other hemisphere is full of pockmarks. In Greek legend, there were seven sisters, or planets, which were visible to the naked eye. The seventh, Electra, could not bear to watch the destruction of Troy, so she withdrew from the heavens. Could this be a veiled reference to the planet that collided with Mars? In any case, Mars has played a huge role in Earth's history, and may have contributed to other phenomenon, such as Joshua's long day. More on that here viewtopic.php?f=18&t=62945&p=538926#p538926
