Hey,

Ephesians Online 6

I told you I would try to speed things up a bit, so here goes. We are going to cover verses 10 thru 23, which will finish off chapter 1. I won’t put them all up just the part I’m referring to.

v. 10 “…he might gather together in one all things in Christ….” I think Donald Grey Barnhouse in his book “The Invisible War” brings to the forefront the crux of the whole matter. I’m talking about creation, Satan, the fall, the whole thing. That point is, in the beginning there was one will, then came a second will. Actually it was 7 “I will’s” of Satan in Isa. 14. Then it became billions of wills all over the earth. End the end there will only be one will again. That one will is the greatest, most fantastic will ever.

v. 14 “Who is the earnest of our inheritance…” Of course the “Who” here is the Holy Spirit in verse 13. “Earnest” you probably know means “a down payment”. This Holy Spirit then is the down payment of something we will get later in full. This may be a new slant on the meaning of this verse, but I ask you to at least consider it. To understand this “part now….. full later” thing I want to suggest that we try to understand what we will receive in full later.

The first place I would like to look is in I Cor. 13: 12 For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then, face to face; now I know in part, but then shall I know even as also I am known. This chapter is known as the Love chapter, and it’s obvious there is no change in subject so this verse must be talking about love. So this verse must mean that we see the love of Christ in our lives darkly, there, but not very visible, but later when we see that love face to face we will know it in full. We also know from I John 4: 8 that “God is Love” is not the Holy Spirit, God? John 3: 1, 2 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God; therefore, the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

The point I’m trying to make is, we have received the Holy Spirit as a down payment to teach us how to love, how to be Christ like and the full payment will be, when He comes, we will be changed from this finite being into an infinite, mortal to immortal, being so we can receive the full payment of God’s love.

v. 21 “Far above all principalities….” Verse 20 tells us this is Christ who is above all things. I thought it might be interesting to point out Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. The reason, they all are subject to Him.

v. 22 “..all things under His feet…” Reminds me of a song, I think it was “The Greene’s” a southern gospel group who sing “….things over my head, are under His feet…”

Can you believe it we got through with chapter 1.
