prayer re: a big decision

prayer re: a big decision

Postby slk2295 on Thu Apr 15, 2004 7:26 pm

I have an important decision to make over the next few days. As I posted a while back, my husband violently attacked me last August in front of our 2 yr old twin girls, and was arrested for assult and interfering in someone trying to call 911 for help (he knocked the phone out of my hand) By the Grace of God, I wasn't hurt badly, and the girl's and I are doing great now.

He is currently enrolled in a court ordered domestic violence program, on two years of probation, and has 4 hours of supervised visitation with the girl's each week.

If we don't agree on a parenting plan soon, the Washington state law requires that we have a social worker do a lengthy and expensive parenting evaluation and home study on both parents and make a recommendation to the court. I don't want to leave my daughters' safety in the hands of an overworked state social worker. So, we've been trying to negotiate through his sister (due to the criminal no contact order and the fact that the attorneys are SOOOO slow and expensive)

I submitted a proposed parenting plan that continues the supervised visitation until he finishes the domestic violence program in October (which is what the domestic violence program and advocate recommends). After that he would have them one day (9 am - 6 pm, not overnight) every other weekend unsupervised, and increasing time with them from there as long as there is no violence.

I received an email tonight from his sister. He is asking for unsupervised visitation right away rather than waiting until October when he finishes the class & counseling.

I'm really praying for the Lord to guide me and align my heart with His will. Please pray for me to know what God would have me do, and please pray for the safety of my little girls.

Thank you!
Dear Shanna,
Im praying for you and your situation, I pray that the Lord make clear to you His will for your problem.
It is very hard for us to know the Lords will when we are faced with something that will affect our children.
A situation such as yours is filled with emotion, and that emotion can be distracting. When you seek the Lords will, try to put all of the emotion away.
And you have to know that no matter what comes of all this,
The Lord is with you, and He is the only one who knows the beginning from the end.
Its hard , it can be frustrating, and it is scary sometimes, but I know from personal experience that our Father truly does know best.
decision

I pray the Lord will bring people across your path to help you. If you believe the children would be in danger, I would go so far as to leave the state.

update

Postby slk2295 on Mon Apr 19, 2004 12:06 pm

Hi, I only have a min, need to go pick up the girls from daycare, but wanted to provide a quick update. Just FYI, the state has so much power over our kids these days that if I tried to leave the state I'd probably be arrested and loose custody. So it seems in the best interest to do what I can to come to an agreement.

After MUCH MUCH MUCH prayer, I have made a settlement offer that reduces the frequency and duration of visits and offered to agee to unsupervised visits. I think this is better than more frequent visits, and far better then letting the state social workers decide.

Thank you for your prayers, and please keep praying that my little girls will be safe while they are with him.

Thanks again!
I dunno what it's like up in the Seattle area, but down here in the Cacade Mountains, it's politically incorrect to be a Christian. If you are in some sort of state-run program and it gets out that you are a Chrisitan (Instead of a JW or something along those lines), you actually have to "pay" for it (After all, those nasty Christians have morals and believe in spanking and all that other bad stuff).

I'm dealing with it now, and speaking from experiance.

I was told by CPS that I need to let my kids live a little because I don't let them read harry potter books (Even though my kids read better than most of thier classmates - just form reading the Bible evry night or so).

I was told that I am to never-EVER physically discipline my children - yet our neighbor who has abandoned her child and drinks 24/7 has a lifestyle that is OK in this community (At least she doesn't spank her child I was told, and trust me - IT SHOWS)

I think Washington state is going secular, we've already started allowing homosexual marriages, pulled scholarships earned by kids because they choose to take Theology/Divinity.

Too bad to, it's a pretty state... I'll sure miss it...
