The meaning of your Internet name

Postby Guest on Fri Apr 09, 2004 9:18 am

Dear believers in Christ
I would like to start a thread where people tell the story behind their Internet or discussion board name.

I have noticed a lot of different and intriguing names.

How did you come up with your name and what is the inspiration that made you call yourself that? Are you trying to make a statement with that name, or just having some fun.

I will start:

Habakkuk15 is really the book of the Old Testament prophet, Habakkuk, Chapter one verse five. Habakkuk 1:5. Habakkuk dares to ask God questions like "Why, God?" The book of Habakkuk is a story of one man's relationship with his God. It is a book of intimacy and love between a believer and the Lord.

God tells Habakkuk (and anyone that cares to listen):

Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
Habakkuk 1:5

This is a message to those of us watching the prophetic indicators of the end times:

Behold!
Regard!
Wonder!

God says, "Take Me literally! I am not kidding! You are about to see Me demonstrate My power among the nations as has never before in history been done!"

That's the story behind my Internet handle and the inspiration is two-fold:
1. an intimate relationship with God through Christ, and
2. the breathless anticipation for His Salvation.

Respectfully,
Johnny

Postby highdesert ITD on Fri Apr 09, 2004 10:54 am

My username is " high desert ITD"

My user name has come about because this is where God broke the backs of those who would not follow Him, for 40 years they wandered in the desert, thus this is where I feel I have been for the last 8 years. Thus is my "signature";

"I am not a prophet nor a teacher, just one in the desert!"
I choose "notforhimself" from the verse in Daniel 9:26 which says: "And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself" simply to highlight our Lord's great sacrifice for us. He did not go to the cross for his own sake, but did it for us. That's powerful and wonderful, and I'm certainly glad He did it for me.

I had never posted anywhere before so when I had to come up with a name, this popped into my head. It's a nickname given me by a friend back in college. My first name starts with an "r", my last name starts with an "r", and I guess I was kind of a square in college. And an engineering major. I guess it fit. Spent most of my time fixing friends cars and running, not partying.
I have been blessed through no fault of my own.
There is nothing I did to deserve Him in my life
He loved me even when I didnt love myself or anyone else.
I can look back all through my life and see His footprints in the sands.

When I was weak He carried me, I didnt ask for Him to, yet He did anyway.

When I ran ahead , He stayed close behind saying, "no, this is the way that you should go", even when I wouldnt listen to Him.

When I tried to run away He hedged me in, protected me from myself, even though I resented it.

When the world tried to pull me down, it was His still small voice that kept me standing.

And after all my stubborness, when I finally turned to Him, He still loved me................

He loves me, so I am blessed. Even if He never did anything else for me, that would be enough.
boring

Postby slk2295 on Mon Apr 12, 2004 7:58 am

After reading all these great stories, I'm thinking I should change my username to something with some kind of story behind it. The truth is that I work in a highly technical field, and one part of my job includes doing a lot of techincal research on the internet, so I regularly end up creating free email accounts at all sorts of sites. Most of the time I log into them once to do whatever research I'm working on, then forget about them. Since I create so many, I usually just type in whatever comes to mind, random letters and numbers. It just so happened one day I was feeling especially UNcreative, so I used my initials and 4 random numbers that mean absolutely nothing. I ended up continuing to use that email account as my primary personal acct, and just used the alias from that account on here. Hmmm... trying to think of something more creative? ............................
........................................................................
................................................................................
Nope, I guess I'm totally burned out on creative email account names. Oh well. At least I'm still in fire for Christ!
My name is rather boring.Jakob is my middle name although my parents call me Jakob (pronounced Yakob-my parents are German)as if it is my first.I think maybe because both of my sisters are named after people in the Bible,my parents like to call me by my biblical middle name. Also because it's German while my father and I have Scottish (Donald) first names that neither one of us are sure how we got.I think my grandfather was trying to assimilate.Almost every single male relative I have is named Herman,Frederick (or Friedrich),Wilhelm,John (or Johann),Michael,or Henrich (or Heinrich).Where my grandfather got Donald,I don't know.

I know most people associate my Nick to the band Rush.
Fact of the matter is I had this name LONG before Rush came out with thier album Test4echo.

The Nick really came to being because I'm a computer geek and while studying the intricacies of TCP/IP I liked the fact that Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) sends a series of "ECHOS" and "REPLIES" to confirm checksums over the Internet to ensure correct data.

Thus TEST4ECHO came into being.
i had to add the 101 only here cause I flubbed my first attemp at registering.

I've had this nick for over 12 years, way back in the old Prodigy BBS days.

Then Rush came along and stole it from me.....lol
im from wales, a small counrtry west of england (see 'what state?' for more info) a polite nickname for a welshman (or woman) is 'welshie', unless your from south wales, then your a 'taff' or 'taffy' which i hear in america is a delicious ooey-gooey treat.

I laughed when I read your comment about 'love songs and stupid stuff'. For a second there I saw you as 10 year old boy talking that hasn't reached that age yet! Please don't take offense, I thought it was cute!
handle

Postby orangemailman on Sat Apr 17, 2004 10:12 am

My favorite color is orange. If my in-laws don't know what to get me for a holiday, they usually get me an orange shirt. I like orange everything. The color suits my personality.

I am a mailman (city letter carrier for the United States Postal Service). I still remember the first time someone yelled to me, "Hey, mailman!" One day my wife said something about the orange mailman, and I liked it. Our uniforms are navy blue, so the last thing you would expect is an orange mailman. Not a very spiritual handle, but it's me.

I usually stay over on the Prophecy section, because I love studying prophecy. Once in while I drift over to some of these other sections.

Johnny- This is a great thread. Thanks for starting it.

Pam- Do you think I need to add my gender on a separate post?

Test- What's the name of that RUSH song off the album Roll The Bones that has these lyrics?

We are young
Wandering the face of the earth
Wondering what our dreams might be worth
Learning that we're only immortal
For a limited time

Have fun and stay busy - Luke 19:13
Ragnarok

Postby Ragnarok on Sat Apr 17, 2004 12:23 pm

Before becoming a christian I spent many years searching and reading about all different types of religions and myths.

In Norse mythology, Ragnarok, is their version of Armageddon ( Ragnarok is not a demon or entity, it's an "event"...a war ( I've been accused of using a demon's name before so I wanted to clear that up...) and the parallels to the Biblical prophecy really stood out in my mind.

At "Ragnarok" ( Armageddon ), Odin and his son Thor, ride from Valhalla ( Heaven ) to Midgard ( earth ) where they do final battle with Loki ( Odin's son and Thor's evil half-brother ), Fenris the Wolf, and the "giants that dwell upon the earth".

And my heritage is German, so the old Norse/Viking stories always were interesting for me....
If you look close, you can see rush's name on my avatar.
Its the cover to the album.

I figured, since they stole my nick , I'd use thier album cover.

What it represents, I dunno exactly. I knows its a bunch of rocks looking out on the horizon. That about it.

Rush has never been into the occult or evil things, so I don't feel i'm treading in places i shouldn't be using it.
(And I have thought about it)
