I always like coming up with a cool username - something that describes me well but still hides my name. I used to be really paranoid about using my name on the Internet for privacy purposes.

Anyway, I thought, "there isn't much accountability when no one really knows who I am." As in, if someone were to come here from my church and read a post of mine - would my posts reflect poorly or well of my King? If someone wanted to do a search online for Brian Sheahan, what would come up (no, I'm not the veterinarian, I'm a software engineer). It can be easy to hide one's self in what they say on the Internet, let alone what the choose to look at or participate in. It can be a very private place to go and have our sinful fun.

Leaders must be blameless and the best way to combat for that in this battlefield of spiritual warfare is to pour the light on all as much as possible.

HAIL KING JESUS!

Pretzelogic is an album/song by a band that I began to love thrity-seven years ago. I continue to pray for their salvation. and the salvation of those whom I've met at their concerts. Their song lyrics were very issues-oriented, mysterious and very subjective so great discussions emerge among the fans of the band, opening opportunity for the gospel. "Babylon sister, shake it!" Of the duo founders of the band, one is Jewish. Their newer stuff is not of my taste, and they didn't even play any of it at the concert last month, so I am not alone in that opinion. "Chain Lightning" is written from the view of a Nazi Youth to show how something that appears so tame, actually needs a deeper reflective look. Another album/song of theirs, "The Royal Scam" says what many of the political threads at this site report! I believe that Internet name is still open!
So who else is/was a Dan fan?

The story goes that a missionary to India invented the Pretzel to represent folded arms in prayer, worshiping the unleavened bread of life, sprinkled as the salt of the earth. It makes for a delicious activity/object lesson for children to make pretzels while praying.

I was in church one night and the pastor said, "what do you want to be remembered for when you die"? I thought, if I am going to be remembered for doing anything too much, I want it to be following Jesus.

Sword of Gideon is a movie about the 1972 Munich Olympic massacre of Israeli athletes and the events thereafter. I had also been reading about Gideon in Judges recently and so thats why I picked the name.

Ksqrd

First and last names start with a "K" so mathematically/scientifically
kk is k times k or k to the second power...K squared shortened to ksqrd on this board.
I have had the nickame for over 30 years to some of my best friends and students.

When I learned that the rapture wasn't pre trib, I was crushed. I had listened to many wonderful ministers day in and day out, and they were all pre trib. I flipped back and forth in my bible to what they told me to look at and sure enough, I thought, (and even defended with all my might) the rapture will happen first, and then all the other "bad stuff"....then, that gut thing came. At first it was a nudge then it became a kick in the side, and I had to know, so I set out to do my own study, and I needed someone to help me read the Word and gleen the truth in the scripture, because while I knew a lot of what parts to read, I needed guidance and understanding, too. The Holy Spirit carried me in my studies and confirmed the basic truth that I must study the Word itself, free of anyone elses words...privately and alone. I could only do that with God leading and me following.

I became God's Student in His Word. I pray, I read, I read the scriptuers, and I listen to what others have to say, but at the end of the day, I rely on God's nudges to carry me through this time with understanding and in using the basic knowledge that I have. There are so many strong people out there who are sure in their own convictions and understandings of the scriptures.....I am not one of them, and they all cannot be right. I began to feel quite reserved about discussing scriptures and different views on them after my own experience, which was that I relied on others to teach me what the Word said. I haven't been at this long enough to be able to aptly flip back and forth in the Word like some of you do, and with the experience that I had early on, I give it my best and I pray for God to help me through the rest.

God carries me a lot, and He is teaching and showing and reminding me of this and that, and helping me to see alot in everything going on around me. I am watching from right where I am ....imperfect and human.....and at peace as I look to God to lead the way for me, and He has not let me down in any way. I PRAISE YOU GOD.....Thank you. :bowing:

I should have known you to be a Dan Fan by your insightful posts, Plalgum!

I became hooked the first time I heard the line "I spend a lot of money, and I spend a lot of time" on the radio in 1972 -so clever to a thirteen year old - haha. Hearing four guitarists of supreme skill on "Reelin' " intrigued me for life. Here is a quick look at some guy playing some of Larry Carlton's work:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZvHHXoDyrA&feature=fvw

I read years ago that Carlton and Michael MacDonald are born again, and those are my two favorites the dan used.

How about that wake-up call to the new-agers in the album "Countdown to Ecstasy" from the seventies?!

The odd mix of xylophones with country steel guitars making sounds like someone is sick to their stomach when the hard questions are asked - pure creative genius! "Will you still have a song to sing when the razor boy comes and takes your fancy things away? Will you still be singing it on that cold and windy day? You know that the coming is so close at hand. You feel all right? I guess only women in cages can stand this kind of night. I guess only women in cages can play down the things they lose..."

"Only a Fool Would Say That" lyrics are so today as well! I could never pick a favorite of theirs, but perhaps "Katy Lied" "Home At Last" "FM" "Do It Again" "TIme Out of Mind" "Bad Sneakers"...so many greats! How about you?

So what does Plalgum mean?

Well . . . mine's no great mystery . . . it's just me. I want to just be who I am, so there ya go! Not that I don't really enjoy all the great names so many of you have chosen for yourselves!

But I've always enjoyed the name my parents gave me: Mark Daniel

One of the meanings of "mark" is a "battle hammer". The name is derived from the "god" of war.

Daniel means "God judges".

So the name "Mark Daniel" is "Warrior of God's Judgment".

When I was about 20 yrs old, there was a nurse in the nursing home where I was working, who had a little mental game going on, matching personalities with the characteristics of different trees and flowers. She said I was like a daffodil; I was deep spiritually, but I loved to reach out to others socially. I have a fun-loving personality and a sunny disposition. Yeah, and I hang my head over, and nod all the time when the wind blows- NOT! LOL

Just a simple game from long long ago. Something to grasp at when grasping for a username.

I read a book once called "Hindsfeet on High Places". It is an allegory for Christian's once they decide to follow the Lord. The main character in this book was named MuchAfraid, and boy-oh-boy, I could relate to that character! I have always been plagued with fear.

The good news is that when she went to heaven, she received her real name - Grace and Glory. I look forward to no more fear and receiving my "real" name that Jesus is going to tell me when I see him.

I read the book myself many years ago and loved it! I knew the minute I saw your user name it was related to the book! It was amazing how differently the Lord dealt with Much Afraid than she expected as well as the two escorts He assigned to her....who were they? Suffering and sorrow? Can't remember.

But I'm so glad you joined us and pray you are well on your way from Much Afraid to Grace and Glory!

When I first started visiting forums on the internet and needed a username, the first one that came to mind was HighBeams. My first and middle names have the same Christian meaning: Reflector of Light. (They both refer to a moon worshipper in pagan religions, and the moon is the biggest reflector of the sun's light.) Thinking of a double light, my mind just grabbed onto the highbeam headlights of our vehicles--more illumination to guide you on your way. I believe the Lord made me to be a double Reflector of His Light in this dark world.

I've been a whitewater kayaker since 2002. Most people assume I do whitewater rafting, since that gets a lot of publicity, but I've never done that. Did you know that the fatality rate for whitewater rafting is 6 times higher than for whitewater kayaking? I'm safer in my kayak!

Since I can barely dogpaddle, I'll stick to riding my horse, at least that way all I may get is a broken bone, rather then drown...

Aw, Loop, you are very kind and caring to say that, but I'm not nearly as brave now after tearing 2 rotator cuffs in my shoulder last year and having to have a 2-hour shoulder reconstruction surgery...which I think contributed to my husband filing for divorce and leaving. (I'm still not "over it" yet...not hardly.)

Did you know that a "loop" is a VERY advanced whitewater kayaker trick? I've never done one, but it's a complete forward somersault of the kayaker AND the boat (you do it in your boat). You have to have just the right whitewater spot to do them, and I've only seen it done once by a friend who was in the Olympics.

Anyhow, thanks for your kind support, I enjoy your posts!

after tearing 2 rotator cuffs in my shoulder

I'm fighting with a torn rotator in my left shoulder now, very painful I know, especially since I was thrown from my horse a couple years back and broke my right shoulder, it broke the ball on the end of my arm which goes into the shoulder completely off and pushed it out the back didn't break the skin though but it also broke the shoulder frame as well as tore the muscles and rotator cuff, very miserable indeed and they waited eight days to do the surgery plus left it dislocated till the then.. still don't have good use of my right shoulder...

The name Loop came from a rescue horse, his name is Trenton's Loop or Loui as I call him, the guy waited till he thought the horse had no chance to survive then called my husband and told him he could have him, cause he didn't want to pay to have him burried, the horse was five years old and we had to prop him up just to get him into the horse trailer he was so weak, we did almost lose him, but my husband knew how to tube feed after three days of tube feeding he finally started eating and it didn't take long for him to make a comeback the vet said she had never seen one as skinny as he was and survive, he carried the boots in the parade for the first boy who died in the Irac war for Boone Cnty WV..

I really hate to hear about the divorce, hang in there, I know it must be hard, will keep you in my prayers..
