I just thought I would see what you all thought on how this might take place. Many people have thought that the Muslim Dome of the Rock was built on the exact same spot as the temple. They've said that it could be destroyed or something, and it is pretty amazing that that Muslims could ever be persuaded to tear it down. I have thought for awhile though that another possibility is that the third temple could be allowed by the Antichrist to be rebuilt to the north of the Dome of the Rock. I'll explain why I believe this is very likely the case.
"All the walls which were there were high, except the wall in the east, so that the priest who burned the heifer, standing on the top of the Mount of Olives, and directing himself to look, saw through the gateway of the sanctuary, at the time when he sprinkled the blood." Mishnah, Middot 2:4
When the priest was on the top of the Mount, the walls were low enough that the priest could see through the only gate on the east side of the mount, the Golden Gate, which lined up with the entrance into the sanctuary. The interesting thing is that the gate is to this day a good ways north of the Dome of the Rock. I think this is in agreement with what Scripture says about the temple.
When Ezekiel saw the vision of the temple in Jerusalem, he wrote in 40:2, "In the visions of God He brought me into the land of Israel and set me down upon a very high mountain, on the south side of which there was what seemed to be the structure of a city." Later on, as the angel showed Ezekiel the design of the temple, 42:18-20 says, "He measured the south side, five hundred reeds witht he measuring reed. He turned about to the west side and measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed. He measured it on the four sides; it had a wall round about, the length five hundred reeds and the breadth five hundred, to make a separation between that which was holy [the temple proper] and that which was common [the outer area]." Some Bibles translate that as the the area which was profane.
However, Ezekiel 43:4-8 is what really makes me think about this. The angel has brought Ezekiel to the only gate that faces east. It says that the glory of the God of Israel came from the east. It goes on to say, "And the glory of the Lord entered the temple by the gate facing east. Then the Spirit caught me up and brought me into the inner court, and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple. And I heard One speaking to me out of the temple, and a Man stood by me. And He [the Lord] said to me, Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever; and My holy name the house of Israel shall no more profane, neither they nor their kings, by their [idolatrous] harlotry, nor by the dead bodies and monuments of their kings, nor by setting their threshold by My thresholds and their doorposts by My doorposts, with a mere wall between Me and them. They have profaned My holy name by their abominations which they have committed; therefore I have consumed them with my anger." If you put this together with the earlier passage about the wall between the temple proper and the common area.
In addition, Revelation 11:1, 2 says, "A reed [as a measuring rod] was then given to me, [shaped] like a staff, and I was told: Rise up and measure the sanctuary of God and the altar [of incense], and [number] those who worship there. But leave out of your measuring the court outside the sanctuary of God; omit that, for it is given over to the Gentiles (the nations), and they will trample the holy city underfoot for 42 months (three and one-half years)."
Where the Jews said the temple was located, combined with these verses taken together, really makes me wonder if in this peace agreement, that the Israelis might be allowed to build their temple next to the Dome of the Rock right in line with the only east gate. What do you guys think?
God Bless you all,
