Does Isaiah 28 support our practices of Line Upon Line, etc

Postby Jay Ross on Tue Jun 12, 2012 12:56 am

hello

I read so often that the practice of developing line upon line, precept upon precept is good practice for studying the Bible and developing theological positions but i wonder if Isaiah 28 where this expression is found actually supports this style of explaining the scriptures.

Does anyone have any thoughts? :armor:

“To whom would He teach knowledge,

And to whom would He interpret the message?

Those just weaned from milk?

Those just taken from the breast?

10 “For He says,

‘ Order on order, order on order,

Line on line, line on line,

A little here, a little there.’”

11 Indeed, He will speak to this people

Through stammering lips and a foreign tongue,

12 He who said to them, “Here is rest, give rest to the weary,”

And, “Here is repose,” but they would not listen.

13 So the word of the Lord to them will be,

“Order on order, order on order,

Line on line, line on line,

A little here, a little there,”

That they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive.

Hi Jay,

My understanding of this passage is that since Israel is so rebellious and obstinate, God will teach them as one teaches a small child. And even they, they would refuse instruction.

Matthew Henry:
The prophet here complains of the wretched stupidity of this people, that they were unteachable and made no improvement of the means of grace which they possessed; they still continued as they were, their mistakes not rectified, their hearts not renewed, nor their lives reformed. Observe,

Does Isaiah 28 support our practices of Line Upon Line, etc.....

Jesus said....Go to Jerusslem and wait for the Promise of the Father.....

What is the Promise of the Father?

The New Birth....Born again of the Blood of Jesus by the Holy Spirit...Born Again
when Adam sin he died spiritually....he died spiritually....death entered into the world so God made a Promise
to Eve......That a Seed....from woman would bruse satans' head and He, Jesus the Promise of the Father
would bruse satans head and satan would bruse His Jesus foot.

The first Adam brought death....Jesus the second Adam brought Life....New Life...Eternal Life...

The spirit of eternal life left Adam and death entered into the world...But God the Father made a Promise that
the SEED of woman would bruse satan's head...

Jesus is the Promise SEED of God....He defeated satan because He never sin one time....so death had no power over him....that Is why he rose from the dead....Jesus Defeated Satan on the cross and Has fuffilled all the Prophseys about Himself....He Jesus is now seated at the right hand of the Father, and makes Intercession for you and I the Believer.

Jesus said....Ye Must Be Born Again......not of the flesh, but of the Holy Spirit
that which is flesh is flesh, that which is spirit is spirit, marvel not I say to you, Ye Must be Born Again, born of the Holy Spirit.......so Jesus sent back the Promise of the Father on the Day of Pentecost....the Holy Spirit...The day of First Fruits
The Believer is born again by the Word and the Spirit
The Spirit in you and me makes grownings not understood by the carnal mind but by the Spirit...The Holy Spirit growning in you and I the Believer....making intercession for us to God that we do not understand by the carnal mind....but by the Holy Spirit that Lives in us the Born Again by the Word and the Spirit of God...we make grownings to God the Father by the spirit...our understandis not fruitful ...we pray in the spirit .....an unknown language to man but understood of God...

And we Grow by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit that lives in us gives us Understanding.....Spiritual Revelations
not by our carnal thinging.... but by the Spirit of God....making Intercession for us
God has given to you and I the Promise of the restoring to us His Holy Spirit that lives in us because Jesus bought us back by HIs Blood on the Cross and has sent back to us the believer which Adam lost in the Garden.....
We are Born Again....Born again by the Word and the Spirit.....we are in this world but not of this world....
He has sent back to you and I the Believers the Promise of the Father the Spirit of Truth that will lead us and guide us into all truth....
Under the law it was line upon line, here a little and there a little...But Now we can go boldly before the Throne of God and Boldly make our pititions known before the Throne of Grace...Because Jesus is our New Blood Covenant and He hears us and we have access to Him by this New Blood Covenant....
Not under the Law...But by Grace we are born again....restored.... what the first Adam lost in the Garden God has restored to us the Believer by the New Birth....Eternal life..God life through Jesus the Christ, the Promise Seed..

Hello mark,

Did you read all of the chapter or were you selective? What do these verses suggest?

Isaiah 28:7-8: -
These also reel with wine
and stagger with strong drink;
the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink,
they are confused with wine,
they stagger with strong drink;
they err in vision,
they stumble in giving judgment.
For all tables are full of vomit,
no place is without filthiness.

Mrs B.,

I did not get what your response to the posed question was? Where you answering the question?

Shalom

Does Isaiah 28 support our practices of Line upon Line, etc

??? Line upon line....line upon line
here a little there a little....
we teach church doctrine today instead of thus saith the Lord
we are like the reilgious leaders of yesterday...
We teach Church dotrine instead of teaching thus saith the Lord...
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.

God is a Spirit
He has given us His Spirit
We should be lead by the Holy Spirit and Teach what the Holy Spirit is saying to the Church.
We need Present Truth.....The word for this hour.
The Church should be preparing for His Soon Return...
Shall we find the faith when He Comes?

Mrs B

After carefully rereading your two posts above can I assume that you you do not believe that Isaiah 28 support the practices of "Line upon Line" for the establishment of our theological premises?

Does Isaiah 28 support our practices of Line Upon Life, etc......

The Law was line upon line...here a little and there a little....
The Law was just that a LAW
But the Law was a School master to bring us to Christ....

We teach children a law.....if you do that you will be rewarded.... with a switch
we have a law in the home of what is acceptable and what is not.
so God gave us the Law....to teach Us about Jesus......
and that sin has a penility....Death

We choose to follow the Law of Life in Christ Jesus which makes me free from the Law of sin and death.

When we are Born Again...Jesus gives us His Spirit that lives in us an leads and guides us into all truth.
We don't live under the Law of Sin and Death....But we are Born Again by the Word and the Holy Spirit and we are set free from the Law of Sin and Death to Follow Jesus....We now are the sons of God Born again by the Word and the Spirit
We are a New Creature....we have New Life, the God life that Lives in us.....The Law of Life has set me free from the Law of Sin a Death......
Under the Law it was line upon line and here a little and there a little....they follow God by a Law.....But Jesus has now set us free from the Law of Sin and Death....And we are Born Again by the Living Word and the Holy Spirit witch sets us free...
Not to sin....but to walk in submission to His Holy Spirit that leads and Guides us into all Truth.....A new Life.....
Jesus said, He that believes in me and the works that I do, so shall he do.......We are now free to Follow Jesus...
We are to be Lead by His Holy Spirit.....they that are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.....It is a New Birth
A Spiritual Birth.....We now Glorify Him in our lives.......when people see you they should see Jesus a Live in You.

They were called Christian in Antiack......meaninag Christ in you......they Represented Jesus....So today we represent Jesus and People should see Jesus in You.....it"s not a Law it is a LIFE.....
A New Life....Born Again....Not of the Flesh but by the Holy Spirit and the Living Word.......the God life...Christ in you the hope of Glory.....

:armor:

Because the LORD led me to do so, I studied Precept Bible Studies by Kay Arthur and Precept Minisitries. This is line upon line teaching--inductive bible study--and it is by far the best way to study the Scriptures. Scripture ALWAYS lines up with scriptures.

I always say that Jeus saved my soul and Kay helped me to become a better believer by teaching me how to inductively study the scriptures.

Doctrine is like the navigator on a plane.. It keeps you from running into the side of the mountain.

I believe studying the BIble and the Doctrines which came from the bible (not the ones that men made up) are part of a healthy lifestyle for one who names his/herself after Christ. :a3:
