Earthquake watch

Events indicative of the end-times which may, or may not, be related to a specific Scripture.

Here is another cool site. If you watch the interactive map, you can see either red or yellow flashings when a new event happens...it even includes car wrecks, and weather.

My browser's showing a 5.6 in central Iran just now.

At about what magnitude does an earthquake become noticeable?

I saw that too Tdye! I think they can detect very slight tremors, but you can chose in options to only notify of specific magnitudes and up. I chose 2.5 and greater.

Oh! I would think it would depend on where the epicenter is. Did you see that 5.5 in Iran just now? I was searching up history of quakes, and Iran has had many very deadly ones since they have started keeping track of them.

Say if you do Firefox, then what do you do with IE. Will it interfere and is it easy to change your favorites, etc. Not too sure, that I want my screen shaking, but it sure is good to have that cause my brother just moved to Long Beach, WA a couple of years ago and they have already had several tsunami warnings, which of course we did not think about, he moved there in Oct 2004 before the big one.
Anyway please let me know, cause I try to keep watch on them so that I can give them a headups. They did get a NOAA radio also.
Kinda scary, but if the big ones hits on this coast, we are all done for. Fear not those, or the earthquakes that can take the body, but fear the one who owns my soul.
Praise God.

SummaryEvent DescriptionSituation Update Google Map Photo's The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is investigating an unplanned shutdown of a nuclear reactor at the North Anna Power Station. According to the NRC, an electrical circuit malfunction led to last Friday's Unit 2 shutdown. The agency said safety systems functioned as designed and there were no injuries or abnormal release of radioactivity into the environment. The NRC said the shutdown was of "low safety significance" but that a three-person inspection team would review what happened, how Dominion Virginia Power responded and how the problems might have affected other systems. NRC spokesman Roger Hannah said inspectors probably will be at the Louisa County power plant for about a week. Dominion nuclear operations spokesman Richard Zuercher declined to say when the reactor will be back in service. "We're working to bring the unit back online and have replaced the circuit boards associated with that part of the system," he said. The company said the temporary loss of unit 2's generating capacity won't affect customers. )

Thanks Salty. It doesn't show the 6.7 I saw on my browser in Venezuela. Both places show the 5.0 in Venezuela, though. I wonder if it was a misprint.

That is a LOT of 5.0's or better. Reminds me of a contraction.

FYI :
Depending on your sensitivity and what you're doing at the time, some can feel a 4.0 and about everybody feels a 5.0. You can detect maybe a 3.0 from the water of a swimming pool.
Each 1.0 is about 30 times stronger than the next lower number.

Hmm, I thought it was a logarithmic scale, with each number being 10 times the next lower number. Time to hit google ...

The meaning is, that the servant of Christ should be a man of peace. He should not indulge in the feelings which commonly give rise to contention, and which commonly characterize it. He should not struggle for mere victory, even when endeavoring to maintain truth; but should do this, in all cases, with a kind spirit, and a mild temper; with entire candor; with nothing designed to provoke and irritate an adversary; and so that, whatever may be the result of the discussion, "the bond of peace" may, if possible, be preserved.

From wiki, it looks like its both:

Because of the logarithmic basis of the scale, each whole number increase in magnitude represents a tenfold increase in measured amplitude; in terms of energy, each whole number increase corresponds to an increase of about 32 times the amount of energy released.

So, it depends on whether you're talking about measured amplitude (10x) or energy released (32x).

Powerful earthquake hits Indonesia

Postby OBXBob on Wed Aug 08, 2007 12:29 pm

More on the quake...

Excerpt:

JAKARTA, Indonesia - A powerful earthquake under the Java Sea rattled Indonesia's capital early Thursday, violently shaking tall buildings and sending panicked residents into the streets.

There were no immediate reports of damage, and geophysicists said there was little risk of a tsunami.

The quake, which struck at 12:04 a.m. (1:04 p.m. EDT Wednesday) had a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 and was centered about 65 miles east of Jakarta at a depth in the Earth of 180 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Residents said tall buildings and single story homes shook violently in the city of 9 million people, and water sloshed from swimming pools.

Many people were awakened by the quake and some people screamed "Allah akbar!" or "God is great!" as they ran outside.
