Who’s Leading the 10 Nations? — What Holly Thinks
Who is heading up the Western European Union since Javier Solana’s term as secretary general ended? One of our discussion board members e-mailed the Assembly of the Western European Union to find out. Here’s the reply he received.
My apologies for not answering earlier, but this week was our plenary session and due to an extremely full timetable, I would not have been able to answer your questions appropriately had I responded earlier.
Mr Solana retired on 24 November 2009. Given all the political readjustments taking place at present, his successor has not yet been named. The Head of the WEU Secretariat in Brussels has been appointed as acting Secretary-General in the meantime.
I hope this answers your questions. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions or comments.
Many thanks,
With my best regards,
Corine Caballero-Bourdot
Head of External relations and Press Officer European Security and Defence Assembly / Assembly of Western European Union
So, the answer to the question “Who is the head of the WEU?” is, we don’t quite know yet. A temporary replacement — Mr. A. Jacomet — has been assigned to Solana’s former position, but we must wait to find out who will be his permanent replacement.
