Reader Mail — What About America?
Here’s a good question we received from an FP reader.
Hey guys, I really enjoy your Web site. But I’m somewhat perplexed. Some time ago I e-mailed to ask your opinion on how the U.S.A. shakes out in all this.
I’m no rocket scientist, but I suppose one could postulate that since we (the U.S.) are clearly not one of the 10 European nations, we will be taken out of the way at some point. At which point the state of Israel will have little choice but to initially cooperate with rising global political pressures, and eventually plead to God their Messiah for deliverance from the same.
What I am unsure of is how we will be decommissioned: by external conquest, internal subversion, or both. Now, maybe I’m missing it, but I see no reference to the U.S.A. anywhere (save possibly the news pieces) in your Web site commentary. Why? Is it fear? I’m not being critical; I really want to understand this glaring omission.
You ask a good question. Scripture appears to be silent about the fate of the United States, and that is why we’re silent on it, too.
The fact that the U.S. doesn’t get attention in Scripture makes people wonder — especially those of us Americans — what will happen to this great nation. Yet, if we want to rightly handle the Word of God, then we need to focus on what the Bible focuses on — not speculation.
What does the Bible focus on? Mainly the revived Roman Empire (the European Union), Israel and the nations surrounding Israel. Those are the things we need to keep our eyes on if we don’t want to miss what God is doing in the world.
Nevertheless, since many of us love America, some speculation may be in order. My father — Herb Peters, the founder of FP — like you, believed that something must happen to the United States to take it out of the picture as the protector of Israel. It seems that President Obama is playing a large role in this with the policies he appears to be adopting toward Israel — where America may no longer be the ally it has always been under previous administrations.
But it may not be the case that the U.S. will be totally out of the picture — through external conquest or internal subversion. It could just be that God didn’t think it was important for us to know ahead of time what the outcome of the U.S. will be. That’s why our focus isn’t on America, but on Europe and Israel.
