Czech President Signs Lisbon Treaty — What Holly Thinks

Czech president Vaclav Klaus signed the Lisbon Treaty today, which means the long-awaited document will now become European Union law.

All 27 EU member states were required to ratify the treaty before it could go into effect. After eight years of wrangling over the document, all the countries ratified the document except the Czech Republic, which was the final hold-out. Its Constitutional Court ruled earlier today that the provisions of the treaty complied with the Czech Republic’s constitution — paving the way for Klaus’ signature. Learn more here.

The treaty is expected to go into force in December or January.

Students of Bible prophecy should be interested in this news because the treaty will create a long-term EU president and a powerful EU foreign minister, cementing the European Union as the Revived Roman Empire foretold by the Prophet Daniel and Apostle John. The foreign minister post, in particular, looks like a strong fit for the position that will one day be held by the Antichrist.

The important questions before us now are who will be the first EU president, who will be the foreign minister and what will become of the 10-nation military alliance known as the Western European Union (WEU). Learn more about the WEU here.

Stay tuned!
