Can you post the gist of Joel's comments? My server at work prohibits me from visiting there. Thanks!

1. "The first is the rise of a fighter from Yemen called the Yamani, who attacks the enemies of Islam.

2. "The second sign is the rise of an anti-Mahdi militant leader named Osman Ben Anbase, who will also be known as the Sofiani. He will be joined by another anti-Mahdi militant called Dajal, whom many Muslims clerics have compared to the Antichrist. The uprising of Sofiani will precede the appearance of the Mahdi in Mecca by exactly six months. These two forces, known as the forces of evil, will occupy Syria and Jordan and advance from there....[for] an epic battle near the city of Kufa, in the Shiite heartland of southern Iraq.

3. "The third distinct sign will be voices from the sky. The most distinct voice will be that of the Angel Gabriel, who will call the faithful to gather around the Mahdi.

4. "The fourth sign will entail the destruction of Sofiani's army....

5. "The fifth and final sign is the death of a holy man by the name of Muhammed bin Hassan, called Nafse Zakiye, or the pure soul. Fifteen days after he is killed, the Mahdi will appear in Mecca. The Mahdi will appoint Jesus Christ as his deputy. People will recognize the Mahdi because there will be an angel above his head shouting, 'This is the Mahdi. Follow him.' The Mahdi will be wearing a ring that belonged to King Solomon and will hold the wooden stick that Moses held when he parted the Red Sea. His army of 313 will grow into 10,000, fifty of whom will be women."

An additional indicator of the Mahdi's arrival, say the religious scholars to whom Ahmadinejad is listening, will be "the death of 80 percent of the world's population in a massive war."

The authors note that Ahmadinejad is telling associates time is very short, noting that in 2005, he "made the timetable more specific, saying the Mahdi would reappear in 2007." He thus increased government funding for the leading Islamic school that teaches about the coming of the Mahdi by 1,000% to $3.5 million.

"With Iran now able to enrich uranium, it could become nuclear in 2007," the authors conclude. "If that happens, Iran's nuclear arsenal might give the regime the confidence it needs to start a war, which could then become the 'platform' that Ahmadinejad has said he wants to create for the reappearance of the Mahdi."

Excerpt:

...If you're looking for some light summer reading, you might want to skip The Nuclear Sphinx of Tehran: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the State of Iran by Yossi Melman, a leading Israeli investigative journalist, and Meir Javedanfar, an Iranian-born Mideast analyst who works closely with the BBC, Voice of America and the Los Angeles Times. But if you're interesting in revealing new insights in Ahmadinejad's apocalyptic religious beliefs, look no further. Major American news outlets like CBS's "60 Minutes," NBC News, CNN and Time have covered Ahmadinejad extensively -- even interviewed him exclusively -- yet missed the big story: the end of the world theology driving his foreign policy. But Melman and Javedanfar get it. Excerpts from their new book:
  • "Ahmadinejad is the first Muslim leader who has prayed for the hastening of the return of the Shiite Messiah, known as the Mahdi, at teh U.N. General Assembly, an act that reinforced his conviction that he was carrying God's words and acting on behalf of the Messiah....Never before had an Iranian leader so publicly acknowledged his messianic beliefs." (p. 42)
  • "The Ayandeye Roshan (Bright Future) Institute, based in Qom, specializes in theological research about the Mahdi. It points to at least five 'distinct signs' that need to happen before the Mahdi appears." (p. 43-44)

In anyone's speculation, according to the scriptures given, do you think the al mahdi is more likely to fit the role of the AC, or the false prophet?
You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But not a hair of your head shall be lost. By your patience you possess your souls. Luke 21:16-19

It is interesting to speculate on cross-involvement of Islamic prophecy and Bible prophecy. It is tempting and plausible to identify AC=Mahdi, FalseP=Islamic Jesus=Maitreya. Then who is Dajal? Actually, in one speculative scenario, things could be really twisted: What if Solana, being the anti-extremist that he is, were to largely defeat the more radical factions of Islam, thereby being labelled as Dajal by the Muslims. He would then become highly regarded by the rest of the world, attaining an unprecedented level of power - a hero. But in reality he would be the AC and proclaim himself as god in the temple, etc. That would fulfill the prophecy that by his "peace" policy he shall destroy wonderfully, and would make him both the Islamic AC and the Biblical AC. In that case perhaps Mahdi would be the Maitreya, or Mahdi would not show up at all.

But I think it should be kept in mind that from our Biblical perspective it is not necessary that any of the Islamic prophecy will happen. There are certain mutually incompatible details like the percent of the population that will perish.

I believe he may be the false prophet. In Bible prophecy, the second beast (false prophet) comes from the earth. The 12th Mahdi is expected to ascend from a well in the earth. He will also point everyone to worship the beast.

The following is my belief as of now, which could very well be wrong. I believe the 12th Mahdi is the false prophet. Some in Islam are looking to him as being the messiah. I think that he will be the instrument used to direct Islam to worship the antichrist. From my understanding currently, Islam views their antichrist as being the same as the Christian antichrist and they like him about as much. Hence the current disconnect between Islam and Europe. However if a figure that Islam views as their messiah, showing signs and wonders, directs them to worship another who is raised from the dead by the dragon I think they will comply. Islam will not be spared beheading if they fail to worship the beast as well. I believe when the Mahdi comes, he will "re-educate" Islam on the interpretation of the Koran. In this way, Islam will be directed to worship the beast.

As for Christianity, I believe they will be directed by the Pope to worship the beast. Catholicism is moving more toward the New Age we-all-worship-the-same-god ideas and when one comes with power, signs and wonders, I think the power of the Pope over his followers may point them to worship the beast.

As for Judaism, the antichrist will order the world-wide genocide of the Jews as we see in the great tribulation, the time of Jacob's trouble. He's not looking for them to worship him, he just wants Israel gone. I believe that is because Christ said that they would not see Him until they said, "Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord." If Satan can destroy all the Jews, then they can't petition the Lord's return and God's plan will be stopped. Satan's been attacking the woman who brought forth the Messiah from the beginning because Israel is the nation God chose to work through.

So basically, I think the false prophet will come from Islam and be used as a controlling mechanism for Muslims world-wide who may initially put more faith in one of their own than a rising leader from the revived Roman Empire, the 10 toes. Perhaps that is the rider on the fourth horse, the pale green one. We'll see soon enough if that is the case.

Well, they would certainly be the most efficient at carrying out the expected method of execution-- they seem to behead people as a form of entertainment.
