Fear of new Mid East ‘Cold War’ as Syria strengthens military alliance with Russia

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will arrive in the Middle East on Monday for another visit intended to spur the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Rice and Israeli officials will discuss Russia’s desire to hold a Middle East peace conference in November, in light of Russia’s recent aggression in Georgia. They’ll also discuss the Israeli-Syrian peace talks.

The convention will include four “faith caucus” meetings and invocations and benedictions by spiritual leaders to open and close each night, including a benediction on Thursday night by evangelical megachurch pastor Joel Hunter.
